Key Highlights
”The geopark has worked hard to reach this point. Being able to take the next step together with our supporting partners and tourism businesses is a boost for the entire region. Through Siljan Geopark, regional development is strengthened,” says Helena Höij, Governor of Dalarna County and Chair of the Geopark Council.
Background and Achievements

Organizational Changes
”Mora Municipality will take over as the host organization for Siljan Geopark from the turn of the year. Visit Dalarna has been an engaged host organization for two years, and the current operations manager has done extensive work in building up the geopark. The work done has created a stable foundation for the future,” says Åsa Granat, Acting CEO of Visit Dalarna.
About Siljan Geopark
Siljan Geopark is Sweden’s first national geopark, located in the heart of Dalarna. It is a collaborative effort between Dalarna County Administrative Board and Siljan municipalities (Leksand, Mora, Orsa, Rättvik) and Visit Dalarna.
A unique feature of the geopark is the Siljans Ring, formed by a meteor impact approximately 380 million years ago. This is western Europe’s largest crater, creating a ring-shaped structure that has significantly influenced the bedrock, landscape, and ecosystems of the entire region.
Mission
The geopark aims to promote sustainable tourism, education, and local identity by showcasing an area with geological heritage of special significance.
