Stay in Falkenberg: Hilarious Anti-Ad Tourism Pitch

Destination Falkenberg launches humorous commercial: "Stay if that's how it’s going to be"

Destination Falkenberg Launches Humorous Ad Campaign: ”Stay in Falkenberg If That’s How It’s Going to Be”

Destination Falkenberg has launched a new advertising film that stands out by doing the opposite: it deliberately critiques what many would typically highlight as the city’s greatest strengths. The film is part of a 2025 project aimed at promoting relocation and increasing awareness of Falkenberg as an attractive place to live.

A Unique Marketing Approach

In the film, viewers follow a woman (Annika Andersson Korenado) who, with dry humor and a clear attitude, questions everything typically used as selling points: proximity to nature, cultural offerings, sandy beaches, culinary profile, seaside spa, and even pizza that tastes like it’s from Naples. Ironically, while attempting to complain about Falkenberg, she ends up listing all the reasons to stay.

”We’ve been tasked with working on relocation, which requires us to think innovatively. Through anti-advertising, we can communicate the same message as traditional place marketing, but in a more entertaining way. We got the idea from Visit Norway, who created a similar film,” says Caroline Andersson, Marketing Manager at Destination Falkenberg.

Showcasing Falkenberg’s Attractions

The film traverses various locations and experiences in Falkenberg, including:

  • Sumpafallen
  • Doktorspromenaden
  • Rian Design Museum
  • Skrea Beach
  • Näset
  • Skrea Matbruk
  • Strandbaden
  • Lilla Napoli

The film concludes with its key message: ”You might as well stay in Falkenberg if that’s how it’s going to be.” This line also plays on the many recurring visitors Falkenberg receives during summer, suggesting that instead of visiting every summer, one might as well permanently settle here.
