Halmstad Launches Winter Magic – A New Light Walk Through the City
On this year’s Christmas window display, November 30th, Halmstad launches Winter Magic, a new initiative offering residents and visitors a free experience through the city streets. With stories, light installations, and atmospheric paths, the dark season becomes brighter and more vibrant.
When Darkness Falls – Winter Magic Lights Up
As evenings grow longer, Halmstad transforms into a place where light, history, and imagination converge. Visitors can freely explore Winter Magic or take the light walk with audio guides, which lead through selected points in the city center. Each location has its own magic – historical, mythical, or pure fantasy.
”We want to make it easy for everyone to discover the atmosphere already present in the city center – and see it in a new light. By highlighting existing light installations and connecting them to stories about Halmstad, we create an open and accessible experience that everyone can participate in,” says Alexandra Kahts-Winje, Destination Seller at Destination Halmstad.
Guided Tour – 24/7
Via halmstadstories.se, visitors can take a guided tour showcasing selected city light installations. They’ll also learn more about the city’s history and magical tales. The audio guide is available 24/7 and can be experienced at one’s own pace throughout the period of November 30th – January 13th.
For those preferring a silent exploration, a map is available both digitally and in print. The printed map can be obtained at locations like the Halmstad Tourist Center.
Extra Guided Tours in December
Beyond the digital walk, guided tours with Halland guides Bengt and Dorrit are offered on three Sundays in December: 7th, 14th, and 21st. These tours build on Winter Magic but include extra stops – beautifully illuminated buildings, luminous artworks, and small light secrets known only to the guides.
Strong Local Collaboration
Winter Magic is the result of collaboration between Destination Halmstad, Halmstad City, Halmstad Municipality, and Property Owners Center Halmstad.
”This is a fine example of what we can create when we work together to make the city center lively and attractive even during the darker months of the year,” says Ulrika Abrahamsson, City Development Coordinator at Halmstad Municipality.
