IRONMAN 70.3 European Championship 2026 Sells Out in Jönköping

The IRONMAN 70.3 Jönköping European Championship, scheduled for July 5th, 2026, has already sold out. An impressive 3,200 athletes will participate in the 10th-anniversary event, making it the largest starting field in the event’s history and the third-largest IRONMAN 70.3 event in Europe.

International Participation

Nearly 1,700 Swedish athletes are registered, the highest number since the pandemic. Approximately 46% of participants are international, with strong interest from Norway, Denmark, Germany, and England. Athletes from USA, Brazil, Colombia, and South Africa are also participating.

Changing Demographics

The 2026 championship marks a notable shift in participant demographics. Traditionally attracting 45-55 year-olds, triathlon is now seeing rapid growth among younger athletes. A remarkable 52% of participants are now between 18-34 years old, with young Swedish athletes showing particular enthusiasm.

What is IRONMAN 70.3?

An IRONMAN 70.3 is a triathlon event featuring:

  • 1.9 km swimming
  • 90 km cycling
  • 21 km running

This distance is half of the classic IRONMAN full-distance race.

Companion Event: 4:18:4 Jönköping

The day before the main event, the Elite Stora Hotellet 4:18:4 Jönköping will offer a mini-triathlon for those wanting to try the sport, with shorter distances of 400m swimming, 18 km cycling, and 4 km running.
