World Championship Preparation with Top Meeting in Halmstad

Sweden’s women’s handball national team has qualified for the World Championship in Germany and the Netherlands. In preparation for this prestigious tournament, the team has chosen to stay, train, and play in Halmstad – a city with a strong handball tradition.

Exciting Match Announcement

On November 22nd, a top-tier match will be played at Halmstad Arena. Sweden will face Denmark in an exclusive warm-up match before the World Championship. This is the first time the women’s national team will play in Halmstad, and the atmosphere is expected to be electric when two of the world’s best national teams face each other.

”It is reassuring to be able to prepare at home, and it is good for us to have two tough matches during the preparation where we really must play at our peak to win,” says key player Emma Lindqvist.

Strategic Preparation

Sweden will stay and train in Halmstad during their preparation, with two matches against Denmark on the schedule. The first match will be played on Danish soil on Thursday, November 20th, while the World Championship warm-up will be decided in Halmstad Arena on Saturday, November 22nd.

”Of course, it feels good that we have secured our World Championship ticket and can now focus on the winter championship. Denmark has won medals in the last five championships, so they are truly one of the world’s best teams right now. The matches against them will give us insight into where we stand before the championship,” says Tomas Axnér, who is leading his eighth championship as Swedish national coach and has led Sweden to six consecutive top-five placements.

Halmstad: A Sports and Event Destination

Halmstad is an established events and sports city that has hosted numerous major sporting events. Welcoming the women’s handball national team before the World Championship is further proof of the city’s attractiveness and capacity as a host, supported by local clubs Halmstad Handboll and HK Drott.

”Handball has always been big in Halmstad, and we are happy to welcome Sweden and provide the national team with the best possible World Championship conditions in terms of accommodation, training, and matches. To see two of the world’s best national teams meet in the World Championship warm-up at Halmstad Arena is something we are really looking forward to. We will do everything we can to create a fantastic atmosphere for both players and audience,” says Camilla Axelsson from Destination Halmstad.
