Sound Meter Determines Your Stay in the Skåne Cabin
Visit Skåne launches ”Stay Quiet”, a unique concept inviting international visitors to a free forest cabin stay with one crucial condition: maintaining silence.
Innovative Quiet Experience Concept
International visitors can now apply for a free stay in a secluded forest cabin equipped with a decibel meter. If noise levels exceed the limit, guests receive an SMS instructing them to end their stay the following morning.
Purpose and Health Benefits
The initiative aims to highlight the negative health effects of noise while emphasizing the positive impacts of silence. Research demonstrates that time spent in quiet nature can:
- Reduce stress
- Improve sleep quality
- Lower blood pressure
- Decrease heart rate
”We want to offer a unique experience while increasing awareness about how sound affects our health. By challenging people to lower their voices, we create space for nature’s calming sounds. It’s both a playful experiment and a reminder that silence is a resource we all need more of,” says Josefine Nordgren, project manager at Visit Skåne.
Application and Availability
Free stays are available for international visitors who can apply through Visit Skåne’s Instagram account between October 6-12. The first guests will arrive at the cabin by late October.
Broader Quietude Initiative
This project is part of a long-term strategy to promote peaceful locations as travel destinations. In 2024, Visit Skåne launched ”The Map of Quietude”, a guide to 26 quiet natural areas across the region with documented low noise levels.
For international travelers, Stay Quiet offers an immersive experience of the Quietude initiative, making the concept both clear and accessible.
