Östersund Unfolded: Digital City Tours Merge AI Technology and Storytelling
On October 29th, Östersund Unfolded will launch a series of digital city tours that offer a completely new way to experience the city’s history and present.
Innovative Digital City Exploration
This groundbreaking project is a collaboration between Destination Östersund, the Old Östersund Association, Jämtkraft, and digital agency Adeprimo. The innovative tours will guide visitors and residents through the city’s historical landmarks using mobile technology.
Unique City Tour Experiences
Three initial digital tours will be available:
- Östersund – From Settlement to Regional Capital
10 locations, approximately 30 minutes long. A journey through Östersund’s development featuring stories about the Town Hall, the County Administrative Board, and the city’s early evolution. - Color Splashes
7 locations, approximately 30 minutes long. An artistic walk exploring the city’s facade paintings. - Jämtkraft’s History
8 locations, approximately 30 minutes long. A journey from the first electric street lamps to modern energy solutions.
Interactive Urban Storytelling
The tours utilize mobile phones with GPS functionality, audio, images, and AI-generated voices to create an immersive historical experience.
”With Östersund Unfolded, we’re taking a new step in how one can experience Östersund digitally. Through AI-generated voices and smart technology, it becomes easy to experience and further develop the tours over time,” says Calle Hedman from Destination Östersund.
Urban Art and Historical Preservation
As part of the project, nine electrical cabinets in the city center have been transformed, displaying black and white historical images of Östersund. Each image includes the year and a QR code linking to the digital tours.
Future Plans
More city tours are planned, with at least one new tour before the year’s end and several more planned for next summer. The tours will also be expanded to multiple languages in the future.
