Östersund Unfolded: Digital City Tours Combining AI Technology and Storytelling
On October 29th, Östersund Unfolded will launch a series of digital city tours that offer a completely new way to experience the city’s history and present.
A Collaborative Digital Innovation
This innovative project is a collaboration between Destination Östersund, Old Östersund Association, Jämtkraft, and digital agency Adeprimo. The project transforms urban exploration through modern technology.
Unique City Tour Experiences
The first three digital walking tours include:
- Östersund – From Settlement to Administrative City: A 30-minute journey exploring 10 locations showcasing the city’s development
- Color Splash: A 30-minute artistic tour of 7 urban facade paintings
- Jämtkraft’s History: An 8-location, 30-minute exploration of the city’s electrical evolution
Innovative Technical Features
Visitors can use their mobile phones to navigate through historical locations, guided by sound, images, and GPS technology. The tours also feature AI-generated voices and smart technological integration.
”With Östersund Unfolded, we’re taking a new step in how one can experience Östersund digitally. Through AI-generated voices and smart technology, it becomes easy to both experience and further develop the tours over time,” says Calle Hedman from Destination Östersund.
Urban Art and Historical Preservation
Nine electrical cabinets in the city center have been transformed with black and white historical images, each featuring a year and a QR code linking to the digital tours.
Accessibility and Future Plans
All tours are free and available 24/7 through ostersundunfolded.se. Future plans include releasing at least one new tour before year-end and several more by next summer, with potential language expansions.
