Major Investment in Lindö: New Waterfront Event Venue in Central Kalmar
Kalmar continues to invest in culture by developing Lindö as a cultural park. In this lush, city-adjacent park, a new stage with a water view is planned, capable of hosting everything from theater performances to concerts.
A New Cultural Destination
The idea for the Lindö event venue was revived by Robert Gustafsson, Johan von der Lancken, and Vicky von der Lancken, who run the national summer theater currently performed at Krusenstiernska gården. The theater, which started in 2008, quickly became one of Kalmar’s most important summer attractions.
”It is with bubbling joy that we from the summer theater now get a chance to become part of the fantastic Lindö project. An island awakened from a sleeping beauty’s slumber to become a culture and leisure island for all of Kalmar,” says Robert Gustafsson.
Project Details
The new event venue on Lindö will have the following features:
- Capacity for 1,400 seated guests during theater performances
- Capacity for approximately 4,000 people during concerts and larger events
- Flexible usage throughout the year
- Preserved walking paths and water view sightlines
- Improved accessibility and lighting
- New service facility with restrooms
”Lindö Cultural Park is an investment that strengthens the entire Kalmar. We are creating an open, beautiful, and accessible cultural park for both residents and visitors,” says Johan Persson, Chairman of the Municipal Executive Board.
Future Potential
The venue can host diverse events including Kalmar City Festival, artist tours, cultural festivals, and local community events. Destination Kalmar’s CEO Camilla Freedeke emphasizes that this project will take Kalmar forward by combining quality and capacity in a beautiful waterfront park setting.
The summer theater will conclude its run at Krusenstiernska gården this summer and will then transition to the new Lindö location, marking an exciting new chapter for Kalmar’s cultural scene.
