Youth Swimming Championships 2025 Generated Significant Tourism Economic Value for Halmstad

When the Youth Swimming Championships were held from July 9-13, 2025, at Simstadion Brottet in Halmstad, it was more than just a week of sporting achievements and joy – the event clearly generated positive effects for Halmstad’s tourism sector. A tourism economic measurement conducted by the Experience Institute on behalf of Destination Halmstad revealed a total tourism economic turnover of 19.4 million Swedish kronor.

Championships Attracted Visitors from Across Sweden

A total of 99 clubs from all over Sweden participated in the championships, which were organized by Swedish Swimming in collaboration with SK Laxen.

The event contributed to a significant influx of guests to the city, attracting a total of 2,768 tourists to Halmstad, including participants, leaders, accompanying persons, and audience members.

The classic arena Simstadion Brottet received very high ratings from visitors and created a beautiful framework for the event.

Significant Contribution to Hotels, Restaurants, and Local Businesses

Of the tourists, 15% were day-trippers, while 85% stayed overnight during their visit. The overnight visitors spent an average of 2,186 kronor per day — a clear contribution to hotels, restaurants, and other local businesses.

A total of 19.4 million kronor was spent, with 19.2 million within Halmstad municipality.

Visitors did more than just attend the competitions during their stay. Remarkably, 89 percent reported visiting beaches, shops, and restaurants in Halmstad.

Long-Term Value for Halmstad as a Destination

The long-term value is clear: 96 percent of visitors indicate they would like to return to Halmstad as tourists – a testament that both the event and the destination left a very positive impression.

”The Youth Swimming Championships demonstrate the power of sporting events for Halmstad. These are incredibly fine tourism economic figures that we see in the measurement, beyond expectations. We are of course also incredibly happy that so many, both visitors and participants, really took the opportunity to discover our beautiful destination in connection with the event. That 96% want to return to Halmstad – what a receipt for us as a destination,” says Camilla Axelsson, Department Head of Destination Development, Destination Halmstad.
