Halmstad Ramps Up New Cycling Initiative
Halmstad has been granted project funds from Visit Halland to develop a multi-year cycling tourism initiative. The goal is to further strengthen Halmstad as a cycling destination and make cycling offerings more accessible and competitive, ultimately increasing attractiveness and attracting more visitors.
Excellent Conditions for Increased Cycling Tourism in Halmstad
The initiative is based on Halmstad’s excellent cycling conditions, featuring a varied landscape, established routes, and strong infrastructure. The project includes work on season extension, development of bookable cycling products, and increased digital accessibility. The objective is to attract both national and international guests.
”Cycling is an area where Halmstad already has strong prerequisites. With this initiative, we can gather, develop, and clarify our offering,” says Camilla Axelsson, Head of Destination Development at Destination Halmstad.
A crucial part of the project is strengthening collaboration between actors in the tourism industry, business sector, and public sector to create a long-term and cohesive cycling offering.
Events to Attract Visitors
The project will also leverage cycling-related events as a destination development tool, where events serve as visitor attractions and development motors.
”We see a strong trend in gravel cycling, where we have opportunities through the international event Gravel Grit ’n Grind,” says Camilla Axelsson.
The initiative aims to strengthen Halmstad as a destination not just during summer, but year-round. By developing cycling tourism, the project will create opportunities for increased tourism revenue, more guest nights, and a stronger local economy, while promoting cycling as a climate-smart travel alternative.
